There is so much strength all around us, and we are so often unaware of it. The weather has been very strange, and reveals its power in mysterious ways we cannot predict. It is mid-May and the asparagus has just been coming up and yet the radishes are ready to be harvested. They are small but very strong.
There are some strong women in my life. The love and determination these women give to others astound me.

This plate was from a series of plates I made a few years ago about the Underground Railroad where I created a "drinking gourd" pattern with them on the wall to represent the path up from Maryland via Harriet Tubman, to Wilmington and on up through Chester County via the potters who were known as "Potters, Quakers, Abolitionists." On this plate's rim is a directional N with glass dripping south from it. I wonder if Harriet Tubman liked radishes.
